Making the Most Of Your Refrigerator Space

Thanksgiving Day will soon be here! I love all the holidays, but Thanksgiving Day is my favorite!

For me, nothing beats a classic Thanksgiving menu. My mouth is watering just thinking about a succulent turkey with all the trimmings. Pile on the candied-sweet potatoes, and, YES, I will have another piece of that delicious pumpkin pie!

If you find cooking a classic menu for Thanksgiving to be overwhelming, then give me a call!

Check out this month's tips; Making the Most Of Your Refrigerator Space.

These tips will start you on your way to a perfect Thanksgiving day feast!

The tips are an excerpt from my book...

When you’re throwing a party, space in your refrigerator
is at a premium.
Here are some tips for maximizing space
for items that have to be kept cold.

Buy or borrow an ice chest or two, depending on
the size of the party.

Take an inventory of what’s inside your
refrigerator.
Combine duplicate items as long as
the dates don’t differ.

Remove items that are past their prime. You can
even make a game out of getting rid of food past
the expiration date by having your kids do it.
Whoever comes up with the greatest amount of
old food wins a prize.
There’s no need to store beverages in your
refrigerator for your party. Most require only an
hour and a half in an ice chest topped off with ice
to completely chill.

Use zipper-top-style bags to store your food. They
will easily conform to the area of the refrigerator.
You can also use stack-able plastic containers.
Have several sizes available; be sure to use the
size that best fits the food item you’re storing.
Sometimes you might fill a plastic container only
halfway — the other half is wasted space.

If your freezer has built up a two-inch layer of ice,
it’s time to defrost. Get this done as soon as you
can.
